This page explains how to delete your First Bird account, and what is erased and what is kept afterwards.
You do not need to install the app to read this page. If you can no longer sign in, see section 3.
1. Delete from inside the app (recommended)
This is the fastest route and usually takes under a minute:
- Open the app and sign in to your account.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Account Actions.
- Tap Delete Account.
- We send a verification code to the email address you registered with.
- Enter that code in the app and confirm.
2. What happens when you delete
The following is deleted or anonymised:
- Your email address is anonymised.
- Your display name, avatar symbol and colour, and gender.
- Your sessions and tokens — you are signed out immediately and cannot sign in again.
- Your chats are no longer visible to you.
- Your notification preference.
The following is kept, for these reasons:
- One string derived from your email address using an irreversible keyed hash (HMAC-SHA256). Its only purpose is to stop a deleted address from registering again, which prevents ban evasion through repeated deletion and re-registration. It cannot be reversed into your email address, and we cannot use it to work out who you are.
- Recordings you previously sent into the public pool that other users already received may remain in their chats — like a letter that has already been posted. They are no longer linked to your identity.
- Any records the law requires us to keep, retained only for the statutory period.
3. If you cannot sign in
If you have lost access to your email or cannot sign in for another reason, email privacy@yuxiaohei.com from the address you registered with and tell us you want the account deleted.
To stop someone else from deleting your account maliciously, we need to verify that the request really comes from the account owner. Once verified, we complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by email.
